The Omicron Covid-19 variant is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant, and has already been identified in 89 countries, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported on December 17, 2021. Many countries have been tightening restrictions in a bid to contain the highly mutated variant, amid a fresh surge of global infections ahead of the holiday season.
