For both candidates, the economy remains a big issue as the Covid pandemic had a dramatic effect on daily life in the country.

Lockdowns forced restaurants and cultural arenas such as theatres and museums to close.

The government dug deep to support business through a pandemic-induced recession.

But now, residents are battling a different economic beast, inflation.
