Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed his Honduran counterpart Xiomara Castro in Beijing on June 12, 2023, the first state visit by any Honduran leader to mainland China. It followed the decision by the Central American nation to cut ties with Taipei and establish formal relations with Beijing. At the start of Castro’s visit, Xi stressed that the one-China principle was the foundation of the relationship.
