Congress formally certifies Joe Biden, Kamala Harris as winners of 2020 election | FULL

The U.S. Congress finally affirmed President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory early Thursday, after an Electoral College vote count that was interrupted by both Republican objections and supporters of President Donald Trump who violently sieged the Capitol.

Vice-President Mike Pence declared Biden and vice-president-elect Kamala Harris the winners of November’s election, putting the final nail in the coffin for Trump’s hopes that the results could be overturned, either by Pence or Republican lawmakers.

Democrats and Republicans resumed the process of counting the Electoral College votes shortly after police cleared the U.S. Capitol of violent Trump supporters.

Police confirmed a total of four people died after a mob of protesters stormed the Capitol building, interrupting a joint session of Congress. Lawmakers and press members were forced to shelter in place for hours as police attempted to regain order.

Biden and Harris will be inaugurated on Jan. 20.
