The first protest in three years authorised by the Hong Kong police took place on March 26, 2023, in Tseung Kwan O. About 80 Hongkongers marched to protest against a plan to build six public facilities on a new patch of reclaimed land southwest of the residential district. The rally was the first of its kind since 2020 against a government policy, coming on the heels of the lifting of all Covid-19 curbs earlier this year. Police imposed strict conditions on the demonstrators who were required to wear number tags around their necks and keep their faces uncovered.
