Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rock-star welcome from tens of thousands of Indian expatriates during a visit to Sydney, Australia on May 23, 2023. His Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese referred to him as “The Boss”, the nickname for American rock star Bruce Springsteen. The campaign-style event was held as both leaders positioned themselves as likely front runners for reelection in their respective countries.
