Mainland Chinese social media are pointing the finger at Hong Kong for triggering the mainland’s worst Covid-19 outbreak in two years. Netizens have questioned why Hong Kong received relief and medical volunteers from the mainland as cities there face their own Covid-related lockdowns. Since the start of March 2022, more than 18,000 new Covid-19 infections have been recorded nationwide, with cities such Shenzhen and Dongguan now undergoing mass testing. Hong Kong, which has been seeing over 20,000 new infections daily, has so far avoided a citywide lockdown.
