Han Jiali has spent thousands of dollars and weeks at a time tracking cat meat traders through China, after her beloved pet Dabai was stolen from her home in Shanghai in December 2022. Since then, Han, 33, has uncovered a supply chain preying on urban strays and outdoor pets. While most people in China do not consume cat meat, an estimated four million cats are killed for their meat in China yearly, according to Humane Society International.
