The House of Representatives is poised to impeach President Trump for a second time when it meets on Jan. 13 to consider an article charging him with “incitement of insurrection.”
The push for an unprecedented second impeachment took a dramatic bipartisan turn as several senior House Republicans joined the Democratic effort to remove Trump for his role in inciting an angry mob to storm the Capitol. Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.), the third-ranking House Republican, and Rep. John Katko (N.Y.), the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, both publicly stated that they support impeachment. They are joined by Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), Fred Upton (R-Mich.) and Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.).
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled that the earliest the chamber would begin acting is Jan. 19, the day before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.
